Osler's Hosted Service has many advantages:

  • Connectivity to BC eHealth PPN- The BC Ministry of Health provides you a connection to the Private Physician Network (PPN) when you choose Osler's Hosted Service. Certain eHealth resources are only available through the PPN due to security and privacy requirements. Future interfaces for ePrescribing, Provincial Lab Information System and Patient and Physician Registries will only be available through a PPN connection. Non-hosted Osler customers or customers of non PITO qualified vendors do not have PPN access. Read more about the PPN...
  • Reliability - Our professionally managed servers are maintained and monitored to achieve 99.99% uptime which means less than 5 minutes of downtime per month. Downtime can cost you and your clinic hundreds of dollars per minute. It takes a professional IT specialist to minimize downtime and we can do it cheaper than can be achieved in a small office because the costs are spread across a larger customer base. Increased reliability alone can pay for your EMR by reducing downtime costs. Read more...
  • Professionally Managed - Our hosted service uses enterprise grade servers. This means no database size limits, automatically scheduled maintenance and monitoring, and professional administrators overseeing the whole operation. These services are not available with lower cost locally installed servers and it all adds up to better performance for less money.
  • Security and Privacy are maintained to Ministry of Health standards. Only PITO-qualified vendors have been audited to verify that these strict criteria are met. In addition to MoH standards, our data centre meets the requirements of the ISO 9001, ITIL, and CICA 5970 standards.
  • Convenient access from anywhere - Connect to your EMR from any internet connection securely. Osler's Hosted EMR solution provides the freedom to connect from your office, home, or anywhere with an internet connection. Today's mobile data solutions let you connect anywhere that has internet availability or cell coverage while maintaining security and privacy.
  • Worry Free Backups - Osler maintains and tests system backups regularly, storing copies securely offsite regularly. This means you don't have to worry about a disk failure, fire, theft or loss. You don't have to worry that your last backup will restore properly.
  • Always on the Latest Version Software - Our Hosted Service keeps you up to date with the most up to date version of our EMR without requiring downtime during upgrades. In most cases we can perform upgrades outside regular office hours. That means the latest and greatest features without the hassles of office time upgrades.
  • Microsoft Word licenses included - A license for MS Word is included for each hosted user. Save the cost of Word for each of your users and you don't have to worry about Word upgrades as new versions are released by Microsoft.
  • First Databank Drug database licenses included - A license for FDB drugs and drug interaction checking features is included for each prescribing physician.
  • ChartView - Osler's ChartView application allows you to view patient chart information for near-term appointments so interruptions in internet service don't prevent access to key patient chart information.
  • Automated Reminders and Recalls - As a Hosted customer, you have access to automated reminders and recalls based on rules that you can modify and design. Relevant reminders and recalls automatically appear in your task inbox as they need to be processed.
  • 24/7/365 Support - Osler's unmatched support and service is extended for our Hosted customers.
Yes. When you want to move to a different computer to use Practice Manager, you do not need to close Practice Manager. You can log in on the second computer and your Citrix session will follow you to that computer.
  • If you are in an area where only you have access to the program (your private office), you can simply leave the software running (or minimize the screen) and move to a different computer.
  • If you are in an area where other people have access to the program (an exam room, a public area), click the Lock button on the lower left hand side of your Practice Manager program.
On another computer, double-click the Osler EMR icon.
  1. Enter your Username and Password.
  2. In Remote client type drop down, choose Native Client.
  3. Press Enter, or click Log In.

Note the username beside the Welcome banner. If this is not your name, log off that user and log in again as yourself before clicking the reconnect button. The other user will not lose his/her session if you use the logoff button.
  1. Click on the Reconnect button in the bottom left. Do not click on Practice Manager as this will start up a second copy of Practice Manager which requires more time and server resources.
  2. Once you click on reconnect, the Practice Manager session you previously opened will appear on the screen.
  3. If you locked Practice Manager on the previous computer, enter your password and the software will open at the screen from which it was locked.  If you did not lock it on the previous computer, it will open at the screen where it was left.
If you open Practice Manager for a second time through the Practice Manager icon, you will needlessly wait for another copy of Practice Manager to startup, and you will use more resources on the hosted server, which adversely impacts the server performance for all hosted users.
