Electronic Medical Summary (e-MS)
Streamline your referrals/consults with e-MS. The e-MS (Electronic Medical Summary) is a subset of patient data that can be shared among care providers as a patient moves through the health care system. Previously, patient information was either in paper charts or incompatible software programs in practitioner offices. Sending a referral or consult meant creating a letter, perhaps by typing in the information manually, and sending it by mail, fax or email.
With e-MS, you can send and receive referrals and consults directly from your Osler program. To create a new referral or consult, you can automatically and selectively pull patient data from the electronic chart into a standardized document. The document can then be sent quickly and securely using data exchange methods to another provider. When a document is received, it will automatically be attached to the appropriate patient chart. You will also have the option to update the patient chart with individual items from the document such as medications, conditions and allergies. The electronic chart will always be up-to-date and the information will be available for future documents.
Documents are managed with an interface similar to widely used email applications. You will have folders to contain all of your documents including an inbox, a drafts folder and a sent folder. This familiar and intuitive interface will allow you to begin to use the e-MS features immediately.
